Why?

It can be difficult to know where to start when it comes to reducing your data trail, becoming more digitally secure, or building a more confident relationship with technology. As our devices become more intertwined with our personal lives, it helps to find a balance.

What?

The Data Detox Kit is a simple, accessible toolkit available in physical and a digital version that walks you through the steps, you can take towards a more in-control online self. It takes a holistic approach, going through the different aspects of your digital life, from the amount of time you spend on your phone to the apps that you use to the passwords you set.
The Data Detox Kit, available in over 40 languages, is used by organisations and individuals around the world to promote conversations around digital privacy, security, wellbeing, the impact of technology on the environment and how to tackle misinformation.
The digital version includes a Resources Download Center, multimedia resources and a Data Detox workshops section, including tips and activities for educators and facilitators interested in engaging their audiences in conversation and actions.

Data Detox Bar

Tactical Tech’s Data Detox Bar is a mural simulating a bar that invites visitors to take control of their data privacy, digital security, and online well-being through playfully mimicking detox cocktails.
The Data Detox Bar promotes discussions about digital topics in an analogue space, creating a truly unique experience and providing visitors with simple and non-judgemental tips and tricks to help them navigate technology more confidently.     data_labe is a media and research organization based in Maré Favela in Rio de Janeiro. Their work intersects human rights, race, gender, urbanism, data and technology. Driven by their creative approach, they adapted the Data Detox Kit into several posters that were shown at their annual festival, Criptofunk.

    Ubunteam: Training Young People and Starting a Movement in the Ivory Coast

    Prepare to be inspired by the incredible work of Ubunteam, a dynamic organization based in the Ivory Coast. Their mission? To champion open-source software, foster digital inclusion, and defend digital rights. Ubunteam takes pride in training journalists, activists, and students on the intricacies of open-source software, digital privacy, and digital security.

    In 2022, Ubunteam ran five interactive and engaging Digital Detox Days, reaching and empowering 330 participants, mainly young people, with the tools to navigate the digital landscape confidently and safely.
